Dividend voucher template
A dividend voucher is the record a company gives each shareholder when it pays a dividend, showing what was paid and on which shares. It names the company and the shareholder, says whether the dividend is interim or final and when it was declared and paid, and sets out the shares held on the record date, the amount per share and the total. One voucher is made for each shareholder for each dividend.

Questions people ask
Does every dividend need a voucher?
It is standard practice to give each shareholder a voucher for each dividend, as the record of what was paid. HMRC may ask to see them, and shareholders use them for their tax returns.
What must a dividend voucher show?
The company's name, the shareholder's name, the date paid, the shares held and the amount of the dividend. This voucher also shows the class of shares, the amount per share and when it was declared.
What is the difference between an interim and a final dividend?
Directors can usually declare an interim dividend during the year under the articles. A final dividend is normally recommended by the directors and approved by the shareholders after the year end.
What is the record date?
The date on which the register of members is checked to see who is entitled to the dividend and on how many shares.
Can a company pay a dividend without profits?
No. A dividend can only be paid out of profits available for distribution, which is why the board minute declaring it refers to the accounts.
